BARNEA, NAHUM

BARNEA, NAHUM (1944– ), Israeli journalist. Barnea was born in Tel Aviv. and graduated in history and political science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he began his writing career on the university student newspaper. Subsequently, he joined davar , where he worked first as the paper's Jerusalem affairs correspondent, then as the paper's representative in Washington, D.C., for six years, and later as a columnist. In 1981 he won the Sokolow prize for journalism. In 1982 he co-founded the Koteret Rashit news magazine. After its closure due to economic difficulties, Barnea joined yedioth ahronoth as a political columnist. He covered most important political, military, and economic stories in Israel. His reportage was characterized by broad knowledge, analytic acumen, and the ability to give a perspective to events. These qualities, together with his regular presence at news events and an easy pen, made him one of the most widely read newspaper journalists in Israel.
